Look for the valve closest to the fixture. Most fixtures will have an individual shut-off valve located beneath the fixture. It will usually be a chrome valve. Sinks and showers may have two valves, one for hot water and one for cold.

Identify the main shut-off valve. This is usually a brass valve with a round handle. In most homes it is located near where the water pipe enters the property, often in the kitchen, laundry or downstairs bathroom. In warmer climates it may be outside, while in colder climates it is usually located indoors.

Treat your drain with white vinegar, baking soda and hot water. This can help eliminate odours caused by bacteria, grease and organic residue while also helping to prevent future blockages.

Use a plunger to clear a clog. Plungers are effective for unclogging toilets, sinks and tubs. Fill the sink or tub with enough water to cover the drain opening, place the plunger firmly over the drain and give several quick pumps to create pressure and remove the blockage.

Plumbing is any system that conveys fluids for a wide range of applications. Plumbing systems use pipes, valves, fixtures, tanks and other apparatus to transport water and other fluids.
